I'm Chester "Cory" Roberts II (aka Samurai Cory), an American digital illustrator and manga artist based in the New York metro area born in 1990. Samurai Cory Studio is my independent creative studio.I started Samurai Cory Studio in 2016. I never held any formal education in art but was entirely self-taught, from watching anime to playing video games when I was young and reading the how-to-draw manga books when I was a teenager. My work is heavily influenced by shonen anime and manga, video games, and street culture from the mid-to-late 1990s and the Y2K era. Urban fantasy, adventure, and martial arts are recurring themes in my webcomic series.I'm known for having the main male characters in my webcomic series to be brave and precocious like Magi's Aladdin, as urban fashion such as ultra-baggy clothes and oversized sneakers with untied, chunky shoelaces are my recurring themes for my characters. As they perform massive feats of strength, magic, or intelligence, including those trained in martial arts, the contrast makes the characters feel even more impressive. It tells the audience that they cannot be contained by strict rules, neat uniforms, or proper laces—they are too busy exploring and saving the world and also known for having them partner with the main female protagonist (usually with her long hair tied in a ponytail) and also be the tomboy best friend and most respectful partner of the main male protagonist, as she is less tsundere and more supportive as she frequently goes on adventures with the main male protagonist.My daily tools are Clip Studio Paint EX, Affinity, Pages (for the webcomic scripts), and XP-Pen Artist 24 Pro.
